Practice Past Issue

In preparation for the production of my magazine, I created a practice front cover from what would be a past issue. Although it may not be of as high quality as my finished magazine, it will help me gain an idea of the layout/fonts of my front cover, as well as keeping me in tune with the use of Adobe Photoshop and creating magazine front covers. This issue will also be used in my website for the purpose of advertising subscriptions to readers. Here is the front cover which I created;

Time Management - Week 7

During this week, I have managed to;

  • Create and upload the logo for my eventual product.
  • I have also created a plan for my recreation task, showing the products I plan to recreate.
  • I have completed my proposal form, giving a detailed account of what my product will be.
Next week, I will be focusing on gaining my recreation photos and producing my recreation tasks. If they are finished in time, I will also begin to gain the images for my actual product during this week.

Proposal Form

Logo

This is the logo for my overall product. I created it using Adobe Photoshop, using my own image, various shapes and colours and the Cutout filter. I used an image of Sunderland's Roker Pier as it is an iconic location to Sunderland and therefore suits the regional genre.
The logo will be placed on various locations throughout my product, such as my website, contents page and billboard.

Time Management - Week 6

In this week, I have managed to successfully complete the work that was allocated, as well as meeting the deadlines for it. I have;

  • I have completed a presentation including my photo shoot planning document, which shows basically what I aspire to do in my photo shoot, I.E; what lighting type I will use or what type of colour scheme I will try to achieve
  • I have also created my 'Recce' presentation, again discussing my photo shoot, looking at potential hazards and factors that may hinder my taking of the photo.
  • I have created a location scout, looking at potential locations for my photo shoot and giving a detailed account of that particular location.

Facial Expression Research

Going into the stage of the coursework where I will be taking photos, I felt it would be important to acknowledge and understand the use of facial expression within magazines. Here is a presentation that I created using Slideshare on the different types of facial expressions used within photography;

Lighting Research

In order to familiarize myself with the lighting methods that I would need to know of for my magazine, I have looked over and posted this short presentation that I made in last year's work, looking at lighting methods.

Masthead Ideas

I have given a lot of thought towards the decision of my magazine's masthead. With my magazine being a fanzine, I tried to come up with something that is short, snappy but is also strongly related with the club. Here are a couple of the ideas I have came up with;

"You're the One for Me - Sunderland"

I thought of this headline because it is part of the lyrics of a Sunderland chant. I thought that it sounded catchy, however I feel that this is too long to be a masthead. Mastheads tend to be just one of two words, where-as this is closer to the length of a sentence.

"We R Wearside"

I like this idea because it is based on the Sunderland chant 'we are Wearside'. I got the idea of including the capital letter 'R' in the middle from popular toy shop 'Toys R Us'. This is a short and catchy name therefore I thought I would take influence from it. It is also relevant because Sunderland's location is on the River Wear, therefore making the magazine relevant to the region. I feel this is a fitting masthead for a regional football fanzine.

"The Mackem Issue"

I am quite keen on this masthead because it sounds as though it would be a good name for a football magazine, due to it's short, catchy nature. It is also a similar masthead to the well known Manchester United fanzine The Red Issue, meaning it is suited quite well to the fanzine format.

"Solace"

I like this masthead because it sounds very much like the name of a magazine due to the fact it is snappy and is made up off one single word. The meaning of the word solace is comfort in a time of distress, therefore I feel it is a relevant name for this magazine as it would hopefully provide readers with a sense of comfort when they read the magazine.

Time Management - Week 4

This week, I was able to;

  • Complete my A2 Proposal Form and upload it to my blog in the form of a Padlet presentation.
  • I have created my flat plans and put them into a presentation along with a detailed rationale about each element. I uploaded this presentation to my blog once created.
  • I have also created and uploaded a presentation showing research into the conventions used within my genre of magazine.
