Website Second Draft

This is my website for my product, it can be found at: http://joehair.wix.com/solace

This is the home page of my product's website. It includes an image of the wearmouth bridge which has been filtered with the colour scheme of red and white. This means that users will instantly know of the association with the city of Sunderland. The welcome message is a pleasantry which are included in most websites. It includes a short piece of information on the site. Below that is also a brief review from an important figure within Sunderland's council. This will inform readers of the products success as this well renowned figure has made positive comments.
There is also a subscription box in which three front covers of Solace magazine can be seen, including my actual front cover. This image is part of a slide show which changes every five seconds to an image of some of my product's merchandise. This is a common promotion technique for most websites. The other images in the slide show can be seen in the screen shots below. The images on the top of the page are also part of a slide show which change every five seconds. The image of Gary Downing is used to promote the regional features within the magazine and then the image of the stadium of light is used to promote the football related features.

The bottom of the page include three pieces of text each giving info on a certain part of the product, issues, subscriptions and merchandise. I then also included a contact detail box which will be seen at the bottom of every page. This includes a map to the Solace HQ, a contact box and general contact details. This again is a custom to most websites and is important to it. Here is a screen shot of the bottom of the page:

I have added to my website, a subscription box, including images of 3 issues of Solace. I have also added more text, such as the 'What Our Customers Say' section and also in the 'Current News and Updates' section. I have also added to the footer of the website contact details and an 'about us' section. I feel this is important info to keep in the website's footer as it is largely essential to the user.

Website - Update 1

Here is a screen shot of my website after my first session of working on it. I have implemented a slide show set of images on the top of the page, therefore a different image appears on this section of the screen every 5 seconds. There is also a piece of text to accompany each image. Each image also has an association with different sections of the site, for example the image which is on screen in this screen shot is discussing the interview which can be seen in the 'features' section of the 'what's on?' drop down. I haven't yet added all of my images, however I am continuing to look for the appropriate images to add into the slideshow.
I still need to implement some more images and text further down in the page, however I will continue to work on that in due course, and will have a second update to the website available in the near future.

Time Management - Week 13

  • This week I have mainly  concentrated on the production of my double page spread. I worked on it and left it initially, but then I went back over it and decided I would make further changes, hence why there are two different updates for the product. However, now I am happy with the way it looks and will await feedback on it.
  • I also created an image-analysis post, looking into the different types of images used for each section of the magazine. This was a course requirement and it also helped me to identify that I have used the right style of images within my magazine.
Next week I will be working on my website. I will be producing it using the program Wix. I will likely post several update posts of the product during its production as it is unlikely that I will complete it in one session, however I am confident that it will be complete by the end of the week.

Double Page Spread First Draft

After a self-assessment of my first draft of the double page spread, I thought I should add in various conventions that were missing first time round. For example, the pull quote between the dominant image and the secondary images, and the photo descriptions which are placed bellow each of my images. There were also other minor changes which I made to the document, such as the strokes of colour in the background, the fading of the edges of the images, the alteration of font sizes. Overall I am a lot more satisfied with this version of my double page spread than I was with the first one.

Double Page Spread Update 1

This is how my magazine's double page spread looks so far. I have managed to almost complete the document within my first session working on it. However there are still further features which I may add or already existing ones which I may edit. I await feedback from teachers and peers to see which improvements are needed.

Time Management - Week 12

  • In this week, I have made further changes to my contents page as well as uploading a post that details these changes and also gives an explanation of why I made them.
  • I have completed the first draft of my billboard. Despite it only being the first draft, I am really happy with the way it looks and unless I receive feedback requiring improvements, I will likely leave it the way it is.
  • I also decided this week that I would change my masthead as I wasn't satisfied with the old one 'The Mackem Issue'. The masthead is now 'Solace'. I have made a post detailing the reasons why I changed my masthead.
Next week I will proceed to produce and hopefully complete my double page spread.

Billboard First Draft

This is my product's billboard. I have went for a fairly simplistic design, including a small amount of text and the rest being taken up by the image. This kind of design is commonly seen within billboards of all genres, therefore mine certainly fits into the billboard category. I am happy with the way it currently looks, however I may make further changes if I decide that I am not satisfied with certain aspects.
